bachata, merengue, chachacha and rueda for beginners

In Uncategorized on December 28, 2007 by leuvensalsa

From January on LeuvenSalsa! will start organizing two new types of classes: “Bachata, merengue and chachacha for beginners” and “Rueda for beginners”!

Bachata, merengue and chachacha for beginners
In a series of ten lessons, every Tuesday 9.30-11pm (Romaanse Poort, Brusselsestr 63), we’ll give you a good introduction to these three dances. You have probably noticed that on salsa parties the dj’s often propose other Latin styles (mostly these three styles). Often they are used mostly as an intermezzo between ‘blocks’ of salsa tunes. But merengue, bachata or chachacha can be much more than that: these rhythms are great to dance on too and there is great music ’supporting’ those styles. As you will see they are also not so different from salsa, it’s clearly all from the same ‘family’ … So, if you want to get an introduction to the world of bachata, merengue and chachacha, join us on Tuesdays, starting 8th of January. We’ll divide the ten classes equally in between the three styles. No previous experience needed and it is also not necessary to enroll with a dance partner . There’ll be ten classes on January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19, 26 and March 4 and 11. Enrollment fee of 70 euro to be paid the first day of class (it is also possible to take separate classes at 9 euro/class). To enroll it is enough to send me an email (or call 0496/123006). We’ll accept a maximum of 44 participants.

Rueda for beginners
On Monday January 7th, 6.45pm, we start a series of five “Rueda” classes (in Hoegaardenzaal, Sportoase, Philipssite). A short experience in salsa is required (some classes are enough as an experience). Rueda is a dance form inside the salsa scene in which couples, in a circle (the “rueda”), execute figures that a caller proposes (the figures often end with partner changes). In five sessions we’ll certainly have the time to acquire a great number of movements. It’ll be fun, it’ll be a great (rhythmical) exercise and you might learn new moves for your ‘ordinary salsa’ … The rueda sessions will go from 6.45 to 8pm in the great dance hall of Sportoase (no high heels or any shoes that leave marks please) on January 7, 14, 21, 28 and February 4th. Enrollment fee of 35 euro. To enroll it is enough to send me an email (or call 0496/123006).

If you feel like some more ’sophisticated’ Latin music, here’s this pianist. Playing with the Buena Vista band as one of the younger members, he has his first album out. Very nice listening music, very inventive …
