Team

Our team of teachers:

  • Carl Hourcau
  • I’m teaching salsa since some more than three years now. Music and dance have been two constant elements in my life; I have an extensive experience both in dancing and in teaching. My first experience in dancing was contemporary dance. I’ve met salsa eight years ago. To my own surprise the pleasure of dancing salsa is becoming only bigger with the years (where will that end?).

The pleasure of teaching salsa lies precisely in passing this pleasure to other people. A lot of the joy and inspiration comes from the wonderful music that the Latin musicians produce and have produced. Several ladies with lots of talent, passion and friendliness assist me in the classes.

  • Aldona Niemiro
  • Aldona has been assisting the LeuvenSalsa! classes since quite some time now. She’s a very committed and precise and she’ll always help with a smile. She also brings in her experience from the fitness and sports world.

  • Caroline Vanmaele
  • Just like Aldona, Caroline started salsa a couple of years ago as a student of LeuvenSalsa!. From the very start she has been quickly developing into a great dancer and a committed teacher.

  • Cathérine Raes
  • Cathérine brings in her natural elegance and her experience from other dance styles (ballet for instance) and fields (musical studies). Committed and precise are the keywords again for her teaching.

  • Maria Szumielewicz
  • Maria started dancing salsa in 1999 and having gathered skills very fast, she started teaching soon after. She is an original salsa stylist and is very well known for her smooth following technique. You will find in her dancing a lot of classic moves as well as ones taken from afro cuban dances what makes Maria conspicuous on the dancefloor.
Also, for the music has been an inseparable part of her life since she was a child, she considers its interpretation as one of the most important things while dancing. Her great inspiration were: Frankie Martinez, Eddie Torres, Burju Hurturk, Franklin Diaz, Juan Matos, Griselle Ponce, Candy Mena and many other fabulous dancers and instructors. Maria has a very clear way of explaining moves and techniques and althought she specializes in New York style, she teaches on 2 and on 1 as well.
